<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are some items of Triathlon equipment that are considered essential. In a time consequential race a watch is a vital piece of hardware for triathletes. Here are the best Triathlon watches to purchase and the justification.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="650" height="434" src="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/triathlon-watch.jpg" alt="Best Triathlon watch - buyers guide" class="wp-image-306" srcset="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/triathlon-watch.jpg 650w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/triathlon-watch-300x200.jpg 300w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/triathlon-watch-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">best triathlon watch</figcaption></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Best Triathlon Watches</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For a sport that wasn’t even in the Olympics until the year 2000, triathlon has become one of the most popular outdoor sports around. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are many reasons behind this, it has a fantastic community, combines three popular sports, and though many people would be loathe to admit it, triathlon also allows you to purchase some seriously cool technology!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What other sport requires high quality running shoes, a top of the range bicycle, and the best neoprene wetsuit? </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We can confidently say none. But the cool technology doesn’t stop there, triathlon watches are the new must-have item for anyone who is serious about conquering the triathlon. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this article we will first give you an idea of what makes a good triathlon watch, and we will then give you a list of the top ten triathlon watches for 2023.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What Makes a Good Triathlon Watch?</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There is a difference between a triathlon watch and a regular sports watch. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For starters, a triathlon watch <em>has</em> to be waterproof, or at the very least highly water resistant. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the major parts of a triathlon takes place under water! If you are planning on wearing a sports watch for triathlon training or competition, then please ensure that it can withstand a prolonged period under water.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Remember that triathlons often take place in open water too, which means that your watch should be able to cope in salt water as well as regular water (not to mention chlorinated water). </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Of course, some triathlons can be performed using a swimming pool, but these are rare. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another factor that separates triathlon watches from regular watches is that they require a bigger screen surface and proper lighting. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is for when you are in the water or when you are cycling. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">During these times it is not as easy to bring the watch up to your face and concentrate. You need to be able to read the relevant data while holding on to your handlebars, or while you are getting a face full of water during the open water swim.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One thing that really stands out in the triathlon is the number of things that you have to remember. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Unlike <a href="https://triathlongearexpert.com/triathlon-distances/">long-distance running</a>, triathlons usually try to take up as little space as possible (due to triathlons having three disciplines). </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This means that you are often expected to perform multiple laps of a certain distance. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is here that triathlon-specific watches come in handy. They are designed to measure laps, save that data, save race routes for you, and use GPS technology to ensure that you have a good idea of where/how far you have travelled. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Battery life is also vitally important, while most triathlons last a few hours, an Ironman triathlon can last the best part of a day. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Finding a watch that can use GPS for hours at a time while also tracking running, swimming, and cycling data without running out of battery is often a challenge. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You need a watch that specialises in triathlon, and one that is able to provide an excellent service for running, swimming, and cycling. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Many watches out there are perfect for running, but how many are also good at measuring swimming distance? Very few. Even fewer would also be able to give you cycling-related data.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this article we have picked out ten triathlon watches that we think will be ideal for your needs. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We have chosen them for their effectiveness, durability, and we have also chosen watches that suit a range of different budgets. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This article should hopefully allow you to find the ideal triathlon watch that suits your specific needs. Let’s get started then. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Top 10 Triathlon Watches Compared</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Below are ten of the best triathlon watches of 2023. We will look at the pros and cons of each and give you as much <em>relevant</em> information as we can, before offering a summary of each watch.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Watch #1 Garmin Forerunner 735 XT Review</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="456" height="489" src="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-Forerunner-735-XT.jpg" alt="Triathlon Watch #1 Garmin Forerunner 735 XT. Best Triathlon Watch" class="wp-image-312" srcset="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-Forerunner-735-XT.jpg 456w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-Forerunner-735-XT-280x300.jpg 280w" sizes="(max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px" /></figure>
</div>

<div class="wp-block-button aligncenter"><a class="wp-block-button__link" href="https://amzn.to/2IMGrsc" rel="nofollow">Check Amazon Price</a></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Garmin Forerunner 735 XT came
out in 2017 and took the triathlon world by storm, here was a watch that every
triathlete would fight for. Today, the 735 XT is slightly outshone by the newer
version (Garmin Forerunner 945) which is also included in this list, but the
735 is certainly well worth its spot on this list. For starters it is now half
the price of the Garmin Forerunner 945 while still delivering many of the
benefits.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe title="Forerunner 735XT - Training with the Triathlon Profile (English)" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ELFeH3xuq9o?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Garmin is an American company
based in Kansas that was founded in 1989. Their first customer was the US Army,
and they are now one of the biggest names in the GPS world. Their sporting
watches consistently top review articles, and there is a reason for that.
Somehow, Garmin has managed to standout in a crowded field as the best sports
watch makers. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This watch has many amazing features
that help it stand out from the crowd, it is a seriously impressive piece of
kit! Firstly, it is a great price. While it is still (like any triathlon watch)
an investment, it is much cheaper than a lot of the watches on this list. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For that price you get a really
good battery life. It can last for 14 hours in GPS mode, which is longer than
even the toughest of triathlons is going to need it for. It also charges fast
between uses and can last for 11 days if just being used as a normal watch. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As you would expect from a Garmin
product, the GPS is very reliable with accurate route tracking and fast GPS acquisition.
GPS rarely loses connection, and even then, it is only under heavy cover –
which is true of almost all GPS devices. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But this watch isn’t just an
effective GPS device, it offers so much more. This watch is a great activity
tracker which can be used for day-to-day use. Counting steps, working out
calories burned, and measuring your heart rate. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It also works as a multi-sports watch;
this is essential for the triathlon. Let’s say that you started your triathlon
with the swim, you could set your watch to swim mode. Once the swim ended you
could tap a button and the watch would swap to cycle mode (just as you are
during the race). Your swim data would be saved but the watch would now track
cycling activity. Once your cycle finishes, you’d press the same button and the
watch would start tracking your running data. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can also set your phone and
watch up so that you receive notifications on your watch when you receive a
text message or call. This isn’t actually as helpful as you’d think though as
there is no way to respond unless you have wireless headphones – which are not
a great idea while in the middle of a triathlon but may be good while you are
on the go. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The watch also looks amazing, and
has a very large, well-lit screen. This means that you should be able to
clearly read it even in fading light or while on your bicycle.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Pros:</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The amount of benefits that this
watch offers are incredible</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Excellent value for money </strong>&#8211; This watch
will compete with any watch and is much cheaper than many of the top watches in
this field.</li>

<li><strong>Quality Design – </strong>Comfortable to wear,
looks amazing, very durable, and the screen is large and well lit.</li>

<li><strong>Top Notch Analysis</strong> – Watch can estimate
Vo2 max, your lactate threshold, and can also give you an idea of how well you
are performing during a race. Watch keeps amazing data from each sport and
presents it clearly.</li>

<li><strong>GPS</strong> – The GPS is outstanding and should
provide you with an excellent surface wherever you are racing.</li>

<li><strong>Amazing Battery Life</strong> – 14 hours in GPS
mode is seriously impressive!</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Cons:</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There aren’t many cons to
purchasing this watch, but here are a few that we can think of</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>No heart rate measurement during swimming</strong>
– the watch does not allow you to measure your heart rate while swimming, you
have to buy specific swim straps to do so.</li>

<li><strong>Waterproof setting on 5 ATM</strong> – ATM is a
measure of how deep you can dive before the watch begins to become damaged. 5
ATM should be more than enough for a triathlon, but several watches on this
list have double the ATM rating, which makes 5 ATM seem a little low in
comparison.</li>

<li><strong>Cannot Respond to messages</strong> – There are
several watches that send you notifications when your phone receives a text.
But most of them allow you to reply. This watch doesn’t. A minor complaint, but
what is the point in getting notifications for messages that you can’t respond
to?</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Summary</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Garmin Forerunner 735 XT is a
superb timepiece that is ideal for any triathlete. It is well priced for a
triathlon watch (though regular sports watch owners may be in for a surprise),
and absolutely delivers on every aspect of what a triathlon watch needs to do. Great
battery life, excellent data analysis, beautiful design, and great durability. The
GPS is remarkable, and you should get everything that you need to from it.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-css-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Watch #2 Garmin VivoActive Black Review</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="434" height="546" src="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-VivoActive-Black.jpg" alt="Garmin VivoActive Black" class="wp-image-316" srcset="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-VivoActive-Black.jpg 434w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-VivoActive-Black-238x300.jpg 238w" sizes="(max-width: 434px) 100vw, 434px" /></figure>
</div>

<div class="wp-block-button aligncenter"><a class="wp-block-button__link" href="https://amzn.to/32q1Sr3" rel="nofollow">Check Amazon Price</a></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While many of the watches on this
list are on the expensive side, this next watch is definitely more of a
bargain. It’s another Garmin watch (expect a lot on this list) but this is certainly
the least expensive of them. Is it as good as the Garmin Forerunner watches?
No, but at around one third of the price of the Garmin Forerunner 945 you
wouldn’t expect it to be.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe title="Garmin vívoactive®: GPS Smartwatch for the Active Lifestyle" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0WWHrd4ScUg?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What the Garmin VivoActive watch <em>does</em>
offer though is a superb watch with many of the functions required to complete
a triathlon race and get all the data you need. You’re not going to get the
exact data that you would from a forerunner, but you can expect decent mile
splits during your runs, and the watch also offers swimming and cycling modes
(as well as golf and activity tracking modes). </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While the Garmin VivoActive does
not specifically describe itself as a triathlon watch it does track your swims
as well as your cycling. For swimming, it is waterproof (though just 5 ATM) and
is great for swimming in a pool. It has a Pool Swim setting which allows you to
input the length of the pool which will allow the watch to estimate calories
burned as well as distance travelled etc … Sadly, the watch does not measure
heart rate while you swim, but like the Garmin Forerunner watches you can
purchase a swim strap that allows this, but it is a separate cost.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Pros:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Excellent value for money</strong> – This is sold
at a decent price for a triathlon watch</li>

<li><strong>Powerful Battery</strong> – The battery will last
up to 10 hours in GPS mode, or 3 weeks when it is in normal watch mode.</li>

<li><strong>Ultra-thin design</strong> – This watch is very light,
and you’ll barely notice it when it is on your wrist, this can make a big
difference during a triathlon where every marginal gain is important.</li>

<li><strong>Great App Support</strong> – There are apps for
swimming, running, and golf, as well as activity tracking apps</li>

<li><strong>Excellent Activity Tracker</strong> – Not only
does it measure your activity passively; it also actively reminds you to move
around if it feels that you’ve been inactive too long during the day.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Cons:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Aesthetics</strong> – While this is a
well-designed watch, aesthetically there is some work to do. Maybe we’re being
a little harsh, but it feels a bit clunky compared to other Garmin watches</li>

<li><strong>Not a Triathlon Watch</strong> – Technically, this
is a sports watch rather than a specific triathlon watch. This doesn’t mean
that you can’t use it for triathlons, but it doesn’t allow you to transition
from swimming to cycling to running in the same way that a triathlon watch
will.</li>

<li><strong>No Open Water Mode</strong> – While it is good at
tracking your swimming while in the swimming pool, the watch is not designed to
measure your swimming in open water. This probably won’t affect your training
as most triathlete’s train in pools, but it will be an issue for competition
use.</li>

<li><strong>Display is a bit dim</strong> – Not a big issue by
any means, but the screen can be a little dim at certain times, making it
difficult to read while cycling or swimming. </li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Summary</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Garmin VivoActive black is an
excellent sport watch that will provide excellent support for your triathlons.
It is a shame that it doesn’t track your swims in open water, and it definitely
could look a little nicer. But overall this is a great watch that will improve
your training, provide you with great data, and is a solid choice all round.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-css-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Watch #3 Suunto Spartan Sport Watch Review</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="488" height="488" src="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Suunto-Spartan-Sport.jpg" alt="Suunto Spartan Sport" class="wp-image-320" srcset="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Suunto-Spartan-Sport.jpg 488w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Suunto-Spartan-Sport-150x150.jpg 150w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Suunto-Spartan-Sport-300x300.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 488px) 100vw, 488px" /></figure>
</div>

<div class="wp-block-button aligncenter"><a class="wp-block-button__link" href="https://amzn.to/2VGS6xW" rel="nofollow">Check Amazon Price</a></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Suunto have an incredible range
of sports watches, and there are three on this list alone. The Suunto Spartan
range is their middle-priced range of watches. They are high in quality, but
don’t come with the eye watering price tags of some of their top of the range
models. The Suunto Spartan Sport watch is a truly excellent triathlon watch
with a lot of impressive features.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
https://youtu.be/fCqZCS353Os
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Suunto is a watch company that is
located in Vantaa, Finland and has been around since 1936. Suunto means “path”
in Finnish. The company became famous in the 70s thanks to its popularity with
divers, Jacques Cousteau being a famous follower of their range. They are now
known for the high quality and amazing durability of their watches and are
particularly popular with triathletes.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The first thing that you notice
when you look at the Suunto Spartan sport is the lovely simplified design. The
screen takes up a lot of space, and all of the data that you need is
beautifully presented on it. The watch has a very accurate heart rate monitor which
it can take during swims just as well as it can during a run or cycle. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The watch has a waterproof rating
of 10 ATM which means that you can dive to 100m in this watch and see no ill
effect. The watch also allows you to swim in swimming pools as well as open water
and can give you excellent data for both. This is great news for triathletes as
you can train and compete in any water and get the information that you
require.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The battery is decent, and should
suit any regular triathlete, with 10 hours of GPS life available. However,
longer triathlons such as an Ironman may not be possible, as they average over
12 hours 30 minutes. Still, 10 hours of battery life while in GPS mode is
pretty impressive, and perfect for regular triathlons.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Pros:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Very Durable</strong> – This watch can withstand
pressures at 100m under water, and is built to survive any of the rigours that
a triathlon can throw at you. </li>

<li><strong>Many Sports Covered</strong> – The watch can
support over 80 different sports, making it perfect for cross-training, and it
allows interval training for all of these sports</li>

<li><strong>Aesthetics</strong> – This may be one of the most
beautiful watches within this market. That’s just our opinion but see for
yourself. The presentation is superb.</li>

<li><strong>Perfect for Open Water</strong> – Being highly
waterproof is fantastic, but the fact that it can also record data while you
swim in open water is great news. It can also track your heart rate while you
swim, without requiring you to purchase additional equipment. </li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Cons:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Battery Life:</strong> Look, we know that 10-hour
battery life in GPS mode was posted as a benefit in the previous watch, but 1)
the Garmin VivoActive was not designed specifically for triathlons so would not
have considered ironman triathlons, and 2) this is a more expensive watch!</li>

<li><strong>Some software issues</strong> – Updating your
workouts can sometimes take longer than you would expect them to. It can
sometimes take a while to reach the workout/function that you want, which is
annoying as watches already take longer to navigate than other technology.</li>

<li><strong>GPS not as good as Garmin </strong>– This is not
surprising as Garmin are industry leaders, but Sunnto is a little behind here
when it comes to accuracy and the effect of lots of cover on satellite.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Summary</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Suunto Spartan Sport Watch is
a fantastic watch, and Garmin have a lot of competition from this company. The
watch looks beautiful and delivers a great package. When it comes to water, the
Sunnto Spartan Sport is the best watch we’ve reviewed thus far. Allowing you to
track your heart rate while you swim is a great benefit. The software lets it
down a little bit, but hopefully updates will improve this. If you are an
ironman triathlete then you may find the battery a little low, but regular
triathletes (or very fast ironman triathletes) will be perfectly happy with how
long it lasts.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-css-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Watch #4 Garmin Forerunner 945 Review</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="470" height="468" src="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-Forerunner-945-Premium-GPS-Running-Triathlon.jpg" alt="Garmin Forerunner 945, Premium GPS Running/Triathlon " class="wp-image-324" srcset="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-Forerunner-945-Premium-GPS-Running-Triathlon.jpg 470w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-Forerunner-945-Premium-GPS-Running-Triathlon-150x150.jpg 150w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-Forerunner-945-Premium-GPS-Running-Triathlon-300x300.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px" /></figure>
</div>

<div class="wp-block-button aligncenter"><a class="wp-block-button__link" href="https://amzn.to/2MgfjE1" rel="nofollow">Check Amazon Price</a></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Garmin Forerunner 945 is the
most expensive triathlon watch on this list; it is also the best product. There
are so many cool features that help this watch stand out, that we have to say
that Garmin may have just created a new yardstick that all future triathlon
watches will be measured against. If you have the money, then buy this watch!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
https://youtu.be/Hd9HWiq8hfQ
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are so many cool features
that this watch provides that we could spend the rest of the article just
naming them. The watch has the best GPS of any watch we’ve reviewed, it has an
amazing sleep analysis mode, and even has the ability to coach you on your
running form. The maps system is awesome. Fully coloured maps combined with the
aforementioned GPS will allow you to find great running trails near you and
will also be able to show you where you are if you get lost.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Pros:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Full colour maps</strong> – This is such a cool
feature, the maps look beautiful and&nbsp;
you can edit in your own routes onto them to follow.</li>

<li><strong>Music storage for Spotify</strong> – Obviously not
a good feature for race day, but with the use of wireless headphones you can
now listen to your Spotify playlists during your training. Meaning you don’t
need to carry your phone or an MP3 player.</li>

<li><strong>Temperature tracker (great for very hot
races)</strong> – This feature may never come in handy, but if you train in very hot
climates (or are competing in a desert-based triathlon) then using this to
track your body temperature can be very useful, this is because it will allow
you to moderate your training if you are likely to be suffering from overheating.</li>

<li><strong>Altitude measurements</strong> – Very accurate
altitude measurements, which allow you to gauge how high or low you have
travelled as well as distance.</li>

<li><strong>Amazing Battery life</strong> – The battery is
very good, it allows 10 hours in GPS mode with music, but you can extend the
battery life to 60 hours if you put it in UltraTrac<img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2122.png" alt="™" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> mode. </li>

<li><strong>Measures respiration rate</strong> – Without
respiration rate, calorie measurement can be nothing more than an intelligent
guess. The Garmin Forerunner 945 is able to measure your respiration rate,
which has many benefits but improved calorie estimation is one of them.</li>

<li><strong>You can purchase items with your watch</strong> –
Provided your bank is one of the participating banks, the watch is able to
purchase items in the same way that Apple pay works. This is such a cool
feature, imagine finishing your run and being able to purchase a bottle of
water without needing to bring your wallet with you.</li>

<li><strong>Measures running form</strong> – Yes that’s right,
if your running form is bad then your watch will be able to tell you. The watch
measures your cadence, stride length, and ground contact time to give you
feedback on your running style.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Cons:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Very expensive</strong> – That’s about the only
con we can think of, but it’s quite a big one unless you have a seriously large
budget for triathlon watches. If not, then be prepared to wait a couple of
years for the price to drop or consider the Garmin Forerunner 735 XT instead.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Summary</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Without a doubt, the Garmin
Forerunner 945 is the best triathlon watch available to buy. Sadly, it is also
the most expensive. It is a big investment and you should definitely ensure
that the investment makes financial sense to you. This watch will still be
amazing and relevant in five years’ time, probably in ten years! A must-have
for any triathlete who takes their runs seriously, but a luxury for most amateur
triathletes.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Watch #5 Coros Apex Premium Multisport Watch Review</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="400" height="464" src="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/COROS-APEX-Premium-Multisport-GPS-Watch.jpg" alt="COROS APEX Premium Multisport GPS Watch" class="wp-image-328" srcset="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/COROS-APEX-Premium-Multisport-GPS-Watch.jpg 400w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/COROS-APEX-Premium-Multisport-GPS-Watch-259x300.jpg 259w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></figure>
</div>

<div class="wp-block-button aligncenter"><a class="wp-block-button__link" href="https://amzn.to/32ihZGP" rel="nofollow">Check Amazon Price</a></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here is what we know about Coros
the company. It was founded in 2015 and … that’s it. The company has not made
any of that information easily available. This really is a shame, because
knowing more about the company can help us to review products and give you a
better idea of the background to these expensive timepieces. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Luckily, the Coros Apex premium
multisport watch is a great triathlon watch. There is no question about that.
It has an incredible battery life with 100 hours in UltraMax GPS mode, 35 hours
in full GPS mode, and 30 days in regular mode. That battery life puts even the
Garmin Forerunner 945 to shame!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The watch is also fully
waterproof to a depth of 100m (10 ATM) which again is better than the Garmin
Forerunner 945 – though we should point out that no triathlete is going to need
to be 100m underwater at any part of the race! It is also well-priced, almost
half the price of the Garmin Forerunner 945.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Obviously, it is not going to
have as many features as the Forerunner but considering the price it really
does offer many advantages to the savvy purchaser. The watch tracks elevation,
activity, it works with Strava to save your data, it can notify you of text messages
or missed calls, and it works in open water as well as swimming pools. It is
great with cycling and has a decent map system. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Pros:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>The Battery is immense</strong> – seriously, 35
hours in full GPS mode is even going to keep an ironman triathlete happy. Even
a slow ironman triathlete should still have battery to spare!</li>

<li><strong>Waterproof</strong> – 10 ATM is a superb level of
waterproofing for a triathlon watch, and you can be confident that even the
roughest of open water swims should not affect it in the slightest.</li>

<li><strong>Price</strong> – Considering how well it competes
with the top watches on this list, it is surprising how great the value for
money of this watch is.</li>

<li><strong>Map system is excellent</strong> – the map and GPS
system combine effectively to help you ascertain where you are, how far you’ve
travelled, and where you need to travel to. Information about elevation is also
available thanks to the altimeter.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Cons:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Doesn’t save data</strong> – You have to use the third-party
app Strava to save your workout data as Coros does not provide its own
software. This isn’t too big a deal, and once you’re set up you won’t even
notice the difference.</li>

<li><strong>HR Monitor</strong> – Not always as accurate as
you’d like, but then wrist measurements of heart rate are not as effective as
regular heart rate monitors. This is an issue that affects all but the very
best triathlon watch.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Summary</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you cannot afford (or refuse
to pay for) the Garmin Forerunner 945, then the Coros Apex watch is a seriously
good substitute. It will provide you with many excellent features and you’ll
hardly notice what you’re missing out on. Well worth considering.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Watch #6 Polar Vantage V Multisport Watch Review</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image">

</div>

<div class="wp-block-button aligncenter"><a class="wp-block-button__link" href="https://amzn.to/35ypOKC" rel="nofollow">Check Amazon Price</a></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Polar is another Finnish company
that sells triathlon watches. Founded in Kempele, Finland in 1977 by Seppo
Seynajakangas, Polar was created to provide the first accurate heart rate
monitors. It is now world-famous for it and has branched out into similar
technology such as watches. The Polar Vantage V multisport watch is a great
continuation of Polar’s tradition for innovation.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While this watch is definitely on
the upper end of the scale when it comes to price, there are some excellent
features that make this a sensible investment for many triathletes. Firstly,
the battery is very good. 40 hours of battery life while in GPS mode is insane.
Secondly, the heart rate monitor is second to none, giving you the most
accurate reading that you could expect from a wrist monitor. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The watch also tracks running
power, gauges intensity, and uses this information to assess your current
physical state and recommends the appropriate amount of recovery.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Pros:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Most Accurate HR measurement</strong> – this is
probably not too surprising considering that Polar is the number one company
for heart rate monitors. But this watch really stands out from the crowd here.</li>

<li><strong>Fantastic Battery</strong> – The battery will last
for 40 hours while in GPS mode, this is seriously impressive and should suit
ironman triathlons perfectly.</li>

<li><strong>Tracks running power</strong> – Watch is able to
track how much power you are putting into your running which means that you
will have really specific data regarding your intensity.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Cons:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Surprisingly expensive</strong> – Not that the
watch isn’t worth paying for, but compared to others on this list we’re
surprised that it isn’t a little cheaper</li>

<li><strong>Low Waterproof Threshold</strong> – 3 ATM should
be good enough for open water swimming, but this is by far the lowest
waterproof setting of any of the watches on this list. </li>

<li><strong>Difficult to read screen in poor light</strong> –
For some reason this watch does not have a very efficient backlight, making it
hard to read during poor visibility. </li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Summary</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Polar Vantage V multisport
watch is a very good, high-quality triathlon watch. Sadly, the high price point
is a big issue, and the low waterproof rating is also a shame. If you are more
interested in getting your recovery right, then this may well be the watch for
you.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Watch #7 Suunto Spartan Ultra HR Reviewed</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="400" height="330" src="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Suunto-Spartan-Ultra-HR.jpg" alt="Suunto Spartan Ultra HR" class="wp-image-332" srcset="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Suunto-Spartan-Ultra-HR.jpg 400w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Suunto-Spartan-Ultra-HR-300x248.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></figure>
</div>

<div class="wp-block-button aligncenter"><a class="wp-block-button__link" href="https://amzn.to/35ADqVN" rel="nofollow">Check Amazon Price</a></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another Suunto watch, this time
we’re looking at the Suunto Spartan Ultra HR. The watch comes in two models,
one has a heart rate monitor, one does not. The model with a heart rate monitor
costs significantly more than the one without so we’ll focus on the non-heart
rate monitor model.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The first thing that stands out
when you look at the Suunto Spartan Ultra HR is the fact that it has a
seriously good battery. It can last for 26 hours while still accessing GPS. Okay,
this may not be as long as the Polar Vantage V Multisport watch which has 40
hours, but 26 hours should be more than enough for most triathletes!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is fully waterproof up to a
distance of 100m underwater (10 ATM) meaning it is durable enough to survive
any swim you’ll encounter. It also has a great map feature, can give you up to
date weather warnings, and provides 80 sport modes that you can track.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The main downside is clearly the
price and in this case the lack of a heart rate monitor. This is one amazing
watch and will really suit ironman triathlons. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Pros:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Decent Battery Life</strong> – 26 hours of battery
while being able to access GPS is really good</li>

<li><strong>Very Durable in Water</strong> – 10 ATM is one of
the best rating you could hope for in a triathlon watch</li>

<li><strong>Many sports modes</strong> – 80 sports modes that
you can follow is more choice than you could ever need!</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Cons:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Very Expensive</strong> – If you want the heart
rate monitor included then this will be the most expensive watch on this list.
Without the heart rate monitor it is still expensive, but nowhere near as much</li>

<li><strong>No Heart Rate Monitor</strong> – This is such a
vital part of triathlon training that it seems crazy to buy a watch without
one.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Summary</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Suunto Spartan Ultra HR is
one seriously good watch, and perfect for the longer duration races such as
Ironman triathlons. It is very durable and has decent software. The high price
for a watch with heart rate monitor included is a shame as this is a pretty
standard feature in triathlon watches.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Watch #8 Suunto 5 Multisport GPS Watch Reviewed</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="318" height="360" src="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Suunto-5-Multisport-GPS-Watch.jpg" alt="Suunto 5 Multisport GPS Watch" class="wp-image-334" srcset="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Suunto-5-Multisport-GPS-Watch.jpg 318w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Suunto-5-Multisport-GPS-Watch-265x300.jpg 265w" sizes="(max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px" /></figure>
</div>

<div class="wp-block-button aligncenter"><a class="wp-block-button__link" href="https://amzn.to/2OOUGRe" rel="nofollow">Check Amazon Price</a></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What’s great about the Suunto 5
multisport watch is how many amazing features have been packed into a watch
that is very competitively priced. Obviously, it is not going to compete with
the top of the range Garmin Forerunner 945, but then again, it’s basically half
the price. Yet it still delivers one of the best swimming experiences with open
water GPS, stroke count, stroke efficiency, and pool workouts as well. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It also has a battery that can
last for 40 hours while the GPS is turned on, this is seriously impressive and
puts similar watches to shame. This watch ticks a lot of boxes for triathletes,
with excellent running, cycling, and swimming functions and a great battery.
There may be a few less bells and whistles than other models, but if you aren’t
looking to break the bank to purchase a watch this could definitely be the
right choice for you.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Pros:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Amazing Battery Life</strong> – 40 hours with GPS
enabled? Perfect!</li>

<li><strong>Superior Swim Tracking</strong> – This watch
records so many different things during a swim, it also has open water as well
as pool related features. </li>

<li><strong>Great Price</strong> – Considering that this watch
is so good for triathlons, it is amazing that it doesn’t cost about $100 more.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Cons:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Waterproofing issues</strong> – Unlike the
majority of watches on this list, the Suunto 5 is only rated 5 ATM which is
quite low. This may affect durability while in water.</li>

<li><strong>Dim Light</strong> – The watch suffers from poor visibility
due to a dim backlight, as most triathlons and training is performed during the
day this shouldn’t be too big an issue</li>

<li><strong>Software issues</strong> – <em>Sometimes</em> the
watch crashes during updates etc … </li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Summary</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An excellent triathlon watch at a
very reasonable price, we were particularly impressed by the swimming features
and the battery life. For this price point you wouldn’t expect to find much
better. The low waterproof rating is a mild concern, but in all honesty no
triathlon is going to require you to dive to the depths at which this watch
will fail so it shouldn’t be an issue.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-css-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Watch #9 Garmin Fenix 5 Sapphire</strong> </h3>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="399" height="477" src="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-Fenix-5-Sapphire.jpg" alt="Garmin Fenix 5 Sapphire" class="wp-image-335" srcset="https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-Fenix-5-Sapphire.jpg 399w, https://triathlongearexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Garmin-Fenix-5-Sapphire-251x300.jpg 251w" sizes="(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px" /></figure>
</div>

<div class="wp-block-button aligncenter"><a class="wp-block-button__link" href="https://amzn.to/2Mgmyf8" rel="nofollow">Check Amazon Price</a></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yes, that’s right, ANOTHER Garmin
watch, this time the Garmin Fenix 5 Sapphire. This watch is definitely at the
upper end of the price range and is just a bit cheaper than the Garmin
Forerunner 945. It should therefore be judged as such. This watch more than
meets these standards.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The battery life is excellent,
with 24 hours of battery life in GPS mode and 60 hours of battery in UltraTrac.
The screen is large and well lit, making it an easy task to read while out and
about. The attention to detail when analysing your stats is remarkable. For
example, it can measure your lactate threshold, cadence, and stride length
while you run. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are similar stats available
for open water and pool swimming, for example you can measure your stroke
number during a swim, your swim style (breaststroke, butterfly etc), and lap
efficiency. The watch is 10 ATM waterproof so can handle depths of up to 100m.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Pros:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Excellent swimming analysis</strong> – This watch
is really good in the water and keeps a lot of data regarding your swim which
is excellent.</li>

<li><strong>Battery life</strong> – 24 hours of battery life
when in GPS mode is superb, UltraTrac also allows GPS access and will last for
60 hours, meaning that even the most extreme triathlon should be survived by
your watch.</li>

<li><strong>Running analysis is thorough</strong> – While
swimming analysis is excellent, the running analysis is a step above.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Cons:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Expensive</strong> – This watch represents a huge
investment, and you have to pay even more if you want all of the features. For
the most dedicated (and richest) triathletes only.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Summary</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The summary for this watch would
be; superb but highly priced. We’re not sure if this watch represents the best
use of your funds. You could get very similar results for about $100 cheaper if
you pursued a Suunto watch, alternatively you could go all in and spend an
extra $100 to get the best watch on this list (Garmin Forerunner 945).</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Watch #10 Timex
Ironman Classic 100 Watch</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image">

</div>

<div class="wp-block-button aligncenter"><a class="wp-block-button__link" href="https://amzn.to/2MJgxGX" rel="nofollow">Check Amazon Price</a></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">How could we have a list of the
ten best triathlon watches without including at least one Timex Ironman Classic
watch? This is the brand who started it all. Timex is the oldest watch
manufacturer on this list, it was founded in 1854 in Middlebury, Connecticut,
USA by Thomas Olsen. The name Timex is actually a combination of Time magazine
and Kleenex tissues (two brands that Olsen respected). We’re not sure how
useful that fact is, but it never fails to raise a smile.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Timex Ironman Classic 100
watch is by far the lowest price on this list, it represents a seriously good
deal and anyone who has a more modest budget will finally have a watch that
they can afford without having to re-mortgage the house!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Compared to the other watches,
this model is very basic. However, it is one of the most waterproof on this
list (10 ATM) and has a battery that should last ten years. Timex watches are
famous for their durability. It has a large watch face which makes it easy to
read, and even has a 100-hour stopwatch, as well as a 99-lap counter. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Pros:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Durable</strong> – Timex watches should survive
anything that a triathlon can throw at them, and then some!</li>

<li><strong>Bargain</strong> – This watch is by far the
cheapest on the list, and that does not mean a huge drop in quality. It is
still a great watch but won’t break the bank.</li>

<li><strong>Waterproof</strong> – Safe at depths of up to
100m, this watch should survive any pool or open water swimming.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Cons:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Basic</strong> – Don’t expect GPS, multisport
features, running analysis, maps, or wifi with this watch. It is just a
standard watch that is great for keeping track of your race time.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Summary</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you are looking for a
timepiece that will survive water, cycling, and running, while keeping accurate
time and not being damaged by water, then this Timex Ironman Classic 100 watch
is a great choice. A perfect starter watch for budding triathletes who don’t
want to invest a tonne of money while they start out. A classic that all
triathletes should have some memory of.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Part of the fun of running triathlons is finding the perfect piece of equipment that will give you an edge over the competition and allow you to improve your times. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Lots of money is often invested in high quality triathlon watches, or superior cycling equipment, but at the end of the day the one piece of equipment that is going to make the biggest difference is your running shoes. In this article we look at the ten best triathlon running shoes for men.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are several factors that
influence what makes a good triathlon running shoe; </p>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li><strong>Price</strong> &#8211; The price is important, yes
everyone has different budgets, but a good deal is a good deal. When we review
each shoe, we look if the price is good value for money or not.</li><li><strong>Weight</strong> – When running long distances, you
are going to want as light a running shoe as possible, this is because every
pound of weight will cost you energy the further you travel. Of course, it isn’t
just being as light as possible. But if there are two identical running shoes
and one is a bit lighter than the other it is clear which one is going to be
more useful during a triathlon.</li><li><strong>Comfort</strong> – As with weight, comfort is
something that becomes more and more important the further you run. How well a
shoe fits is also a consideration when it comes to comfort.</li><li><strong>Breathability</strong> – How well ventilated a
shoe is can also be important, again, the longer the race the more this becomes
an issue. </li><li><strong>Durability</strong> – One of the most important
factors. There is no use owning a running shoe that isn’t going to last for a
very long time. Triathlon running shoes can be very expensive, the longer they
last the better value for money they become. But durability is also important
for how well you can run in them, a non-durable shoe will probably not be
comfortable or breathable and will negatively affect your race.</li><li><strong>Flexibility </strong>– An often-overlooked factor,
flexibility is crucial for good running performance. The more flexible a shoe
is, the better it will allow you to run naturally. Think about running in the
stiffest pair of walking boots and then compare that to running in your
favourite running shoes, as you can see – flexibility is important.</li></ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Now that you know what criteria
we will be using to assess each shoe, here is a list of the top ten best
triathlon running shoes for men. Starting with 10 and moving on to our number
one pick at the end of the article. Please remember that our views are
subjective, and that not everyone will have the same priorities for triathlon
running shoes.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Running Shoe #10 Newton
Tri-Racer MV3 Running Shoes</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Link: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Newton-Tri-Racer-MV3-Running-Shoes/dp/B00CMN8ANM?th=1">https://www.amazon.com/Newton-Tri-Racer-MV3-Running-Shoes/dp/B00CMN8ANM?th=1</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Newton Running is a running shoe
company based in Boulder, Colorado that was set up by amateur runners who
wanted better running shoes. By and large they have succeeded, though many of
the established running shoe companies are still there and still competing
against them. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Newton Tri-Racer MV3 running
shoe is definitely one of the lightest weight models on this list, it weighs
around 159g for a men’s shoe. The shoe also has zero-drop, meaning that there
is no height difference between the heel and the toe. It is basically flat. This
allows your foot to land as naturally as possible, imitating how you would run
if barefoot (without the unpleasant sensation of running barefoot on hot
tarmac, through puddles, or over rocky ground). </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Theoretically this can help
reduce knee or hip pain while running and prevent injuries. Though there is
little scientific evidence to back this. This lack of drop also makes the shoe
very light, which is perfect for long distance runs. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The shoes also give great
traction, with lugs that are anatomically accurate. This allows for greater
flexibility as well as reducing your risk of slipping. Better traction will
help you run faster, particularly if you are a front-foot runner.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The heel and toe have
high-density EVA which allows for a good rebound which will improve your
running speed and improve comfort through excellent shock absorption. The shoes
are also incredibly breathable, using an ultra-light, highly breathable,
fast-drying mesh. The shoes aren’t exactly waterproof, but quick drying is a
great compromise. Perfect for any triathlete.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Overall, this is an excellent
running shoe. The price tag is reasonable and thanks to the high-quality
design, this shoe is highly durable making the cost per run very competitive. If
you can get past the bright colours, you’ll own a truly excellent triathlon
running shoe.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Running Shoe #9 Zoot
Ultra Race 4.0</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Link: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Zoot-Mens-Ultra-4-0-Running/dp/B00DM0MJ0E/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8">https://www.amazon.com/Zoot-Mens-Ultra-4-0-Running/dp/B00DM0MJ0E/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Zoot Ultra Race 4.0 is by far
the most unattractive triathlon running shoe on this list, it’s not even close!
However, who cares about style when it comes to racing? The Zoot Ultra Race 4.0
is perfectly designed for the fastest change over possible between cycling and
running, with its ingenious lace-free tightening system. This is really a
game-changer right here.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Boa fast lacing system will
save you valuable seconds while you make the transition from bike to running.
Instead of having to tie your laces like you would with a normal pair of shoes
you simply place your feet in the shoe and then pull a cord to tighten the shoe
(like a drawstring bag). </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Zoot sport is exactly the kind of
company that would embrace this technology, they are specifically based around
triathlon and have been since 1983. Another really clever aspect of these shoes
is the Tri-dry water drainage system, making it one of the best shoes out there
for running in while your feet dry. Remember, you will have spent a large
portion of your day swimming through open water and your feet are unlikely to
be bone dry after the cycling portion of the race. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A regular pair of running shoes
would almost certainly be compromised here, with wet, slippy feet moving around
too much inside the shoe and leading to discomfort and blisters. With the Zoot
Ultra Race 4.0 you don’t need to worry about this because the shoes are
incredibly good at draining water. Run through puddles to your hearts content!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The cushioning is excellent and
the shoe fits like a glove (or should we say sock), provided you pick the right
size. Users have commented that you should pick a half size up if you wear
socks or stick to your usual size if you run without socks. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The shoe also has decent traction
and is quite durable – though it may be better suited to Olympic Triathlons
rather than Ironman Triathlons. These are really good racing shoes, the type
you’d love to be wearing as you sprint for the finish line. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Running Shoe #8 Hoka
One One Mach</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Link: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/HOKA-ONE-Mens-Mach-Running/dp/B079V7LM24">https://www.amazon.com/HOKA-ONE-Mens-Mach-Running/dp/B079V7LM24</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Unlike the Zoot Ultra Race 4.0,
the Hoka One One Mach is not specifically designed for triathlons, that doesn’t
make it a bad choice though. In fact, we may even prefer it! What the Hoka One
One Mach does well is allow you to run fast while feeling like you’re flying. These
shoes are so well cushioned it is like running on air. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Okay, so with the amazing
cushioning you’re not going to be sprinting at your fastest, but 1) most
triathlon runners would prioritise comfort over speed (particularly in the
longer triathlons) and 2) they are still surprisingly light at just 283g for a
men’s shoe. This is positively heavy compared to the Newton Tri-Racer, but most
runners will not notice the difference. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These shoes would be absolutely
perfect for training, those long hard practice-runs where you work on your
endurance and look to avoid any form of niggle or chronic injuries. You could
still run a good race in these but you could also (if your budget allows) have
a lighter pair of shoes for actual race day and use the Hoka One One Mach shoes
as the ideal training shoes.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The shoes are very breathable, with
a knit mesh upper allowing air flow to travel through the shoes as you run, this
will really help you run during hot weather, and will also help your feet dry
after the swimming/cycling. A beautifully designed, high-quality running shoe
that is perfect for triathletes.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Running Shoe #7 Nike
Tri Fusion </strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Link: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/NIKE-Mens-Fusion-Running-Shoe/dp/B00QFLJL76?th=1">https://www.amazon.com/NIKE-Mens-Fusion-Running-Shoe/dp/B00QFLJL76?th=1</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You just can’t go wrong with a
Nike running shoe, they are world famous for a reason. The Nike Tri Fusion is
their attempt at a great triathlon running shoe. It’s also a very reasonably
priced option. You might think that the “Tri” in the name signifies that it is
designed specifically for triathlons, not so. It is actually referring to the
tri-density mid-sole, which provides superior cushioning and will improve your
running gait.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The shoe also uses anatomically
placed flex grooves that will help improve your transition during long runs.
The lightweight mesh that surrounds the upper makes this shoe one of the most
breathable on this list and considering the price this is surprising. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The shoes are also one of the
most aesthetically pleasing on this list, obviously this may not be a concern
for the hardcore triathlete, but shoes that look gorgeous and feel amazing can
help you feel better and look better too. The shoes combine comfort and
durability very well, getting the balance just about right, something that many
running shoes struggle to achieve. If you’re looking for a good-quality,
high-performing running shoe at a reasonable price then the Nike Tri Fusion
running shoe is a great choice.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Triathlon Running Shoe #6 Hoka
One One Clifton 5</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Link: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/HOKA-ONE-Clifton-Synthetic-Trainers/dp/B07DDMMGKS?ref_=ast_bbp_dp&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1">https://www.amazon.com/HOKA-ONE-Clifton-Synthetic-Trainers/dp/B07DDMMGKS?ref_=ast_bbp_dp&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is the second running shoe
from Hoka One One that we have on this list, in fact the Hoka One One Mach is
supposed to be an upgrade on this shoe. But we love the Clifton 5 and feel that
it is actually the superior of the Mach (though only just). What you need to
understand about Hoka One One is that they are designed for maximum comfort
without impacting performance. This makes them fantastic for training runs,
everyday use, and even for competition time.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Considering the amount of cushioning,
these shoes are quite lightweight and will suit triathlon running well. The
shoes have a padded insole which can improve cushioning and the sole is
flexible enough to make running a breeze. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Like the Hoka One One Mach, the
Clifton 5 is the ideal training shoes, suited to all types of terrain and long
practice runs in all conditions. You can either wear them for race day or you
can use them purely for training with a lighter shoe for races. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Running Shoe #5 Puma
Hybrid Astro</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Link: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/PUMA-Mens-Hybrid-Astro-Sneaker/dp/B07KS2D95C?ref_=ast_sto_dp">https://www.amazon.com/PUMA-Mens-Hybrid-Astro-Sneaker/dp/B07KS2D95C?ref_=ast_sto_dp</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The first thing that you will
notice about the Puma Hybrid Astro is the incredibly unique midsole, the
cushioning looks like it is made of small polystyrene bobbles. Actually, the
midsole uses a hybrid foam mix of ignite and nrgy beads. These provide excellent
cushioning as well as amazing feedback. As your foot lands on the ground the
cushioning will help to propel you forward, allowing you to travel fast and
with fantastic technique.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The shoes are also very
supportive, keeping your foot firmly in place throughout the run which will
help with running economy as well as comfort. There is a net that surrounds the
upper part of this shoe which is designed to increase stability keeping the
area around the top of your foot nice and tight. The heel counter is incredibly
flexible, which will help with stability as well as allowing you to run more
naturally. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What’s great about the Puma
Hybrid Astro is its durability, a lot of the design of this shoe has been based
around providing stability, and these materials can help contribute to improved
durability at the same time. Expect these shoes to last through hundreds of practice
runs and races. If you are looking for a shoe that provides comfort, stability,
flexibility, and will last a long time, then the Puma Hybrid Astro could very
well be the shoe for you.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One thing that we haven’t
mentioned is the aesthetic side to this shoe, it’s certainly a love it or hate
it sort of look. The colour scheme is bold and the heel stands out. The midsole
cushioning is certainly going to get attention, but whether this is a good or
bad thing is really up to you! </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Running Shoe #4 ON
Running Cloudflyer</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Link: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Running-Mens-Cloudflyer-Iron-Shoe/dp/B00YYE1FF2/ref=pd_sbs_309_6/145-3246007-8261608?_encoding=UTF8&amp;pd_rd_i=B00YYE1FF2&amp;pd_rd_r=9fc1995f-5bbc-44aa-b701-e54a44e8cafa&amp;pd_rd_w=1STaP&amp;pd_rd_wg=2dpHg&amp;pf_rd_p=52b7592c-2dc9-4ac6-84d4-4bda636">https://www.amazon.com/Running-Mens-Cloudflyer-Iron-Shoe/dp/B00YYE1FF2/ref=pd_sbs_309_6/145-3246007-8261608?_encoding=UTF8&amp;pd_rd_i=B00YYE1FF2&amp;pd_rd_r=9fc1995f-5bbc-44aa-b701-e54a44e8cafa&amp;pd_rd_w=1STaP&amp;pd_rd_wg=2dpHg&amp;pf_rd_p=52b7592c-2dc9-4ac6-84d4-4bda6360045e&amp;pf_rd_r=JY11J9KHQBCC1AMPYKEK&amp;psc=1&amp;refRID=JY11J9KHQBCC1AMPYKEK</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">ON Running is a Swiss running
shoe company that specialises in lightweight, durable shoes that suit road running.
The Cloudflyer running shoe is a great example of this. It uses Zero-Gravity
cushioning to provide comfort without increasing the weight of the shoe, and
has 12 “clouds” (raised pods on the sole) that are designed to reduce internal
rotation when you land and increase stability.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The heel is cushioned with memory
foam and uses an adaptive v-moulded cap which will keep your heel secure and
stable throughout the run. A lot of people have been very impressed with the
star lacing system. While not as innovative as the Boa used by Zoot, the ultra-thin
laces are ideal for running.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another focus for the Cloudflyer
team was to make their shoe as agile as possible, while triathlons don’t often
require much lateral movement you still need agility when racing. The agility
is mostly down to how light the shoes are. The shoes weigh just 255g. They are
designed to be used for training rather than racing, and their marketing is
quite clear about this, though you could still get a good race out of them in
our opinion!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Triathlon Running Shoe #3
Newton Distance 7</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Link: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Newton-Running-Distance-Black-Yellow/dp/B07BHRTPZF?ref_=ast_bbp_dp&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1">https://www.amazon.com/Newton-Running-Distance-Black-Yellow/dp/B07BHRTPZF?ref_=ast_bbp_dp&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The second shoe on our list from
Newton Running, this time we are looking at the Newton Distance 7 a road
running shoe that suits triathlon running down to the ground. The cushioning
system that Newton Distance 7 employs is seriously impressive. It has been
described as “trampoline-like” because the bounce back from each landing is
incredible, allowing you to spring forward with every step.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to Newton Running this keeps
your energy levels higher than regular running shoes does, it’s quite hard to
gauge whether this is true or not though! The flexibility in the Newton
Distance 7s is excellent, the full flex zone on the base of the shoe allows
your feet to splay out properly as your foot hits the floor, which really helps
with running biomechanics.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The shoe is very durable,
allowing you to train in all conditions (though stick to road racing) and will
last you a lot longer than many similar running shoes. The shoes are really
good at expelling water too, which is great for the removal of sweat or water
while you run. This helps to keep the shoes nice and light and will help you
run faster for longer. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another really cool feature is
the aesthetic design of the Newton Distance 7s. Particularly the black and
yellow combination. The shoes look seriously good with bright colours and a
nice shape. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Running Shoe #2 Asics
Gel-Noosa Tri 11 </strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Link: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/ASICS-Mens-Gel-Noosa-Running-Shoe/dp/B01I8RNT72">https://www.amazon.com/ASICS-Mens-Gel-Noosa-Running-Shoe/dp/B01I8RNT72</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Our 2nd favourite
triathlon running shoe comes from Asics, it is the Gel-Noosa Tri 11. This shoe
not only looks stunning, it is one of the most breathable running shoes out
there. The lacing system is very clever too, making these shoes incredibly
quick to put on your feet during changeovers. The Asics Gel-Noosa Tri 11 is
also one of the most durable running shoes on this list, able to withstand
whatever you can throw at it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While there are lighter running
shoes on this list, the Gel Noosa Tri 11 is very lightweight at just 230g for a
men’s shoe considering that it is primarily a support shoe which focuses on
stability. These shoes are often quite a bit heavier, so in comparison it is
actually ideal.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The cushioning of this shoe is
decent, Asics have added rearfoot and forefoot GEL cushioning systems which are
designed to handle the impact shock of landing on hard surfaces as you run or
sprint as fast as you can. Stability is enforced with the dynamic DuoMax
support system. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Where the Asics Gel-Noosa Tri 11
shoe really stands out from the crowd though is with its breathability. The
mesh that surrounds the upper allows air to circulate around the foot, the shoe
also drains water really well – which prevents the common issue that breathable
shoes have during bad weather where they become waterlogged. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This works great in triathlons
though as most triathletes will still have damp feet when they come to the
running stage. Having great ventilation and drainage could really help reduce
shoe weight and give you that small edge.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The traction in this shoe is also
really good, making it ideal for road racing in bad weather, helping you to
avoid slips and create the right amount of tension with each step to drive you
forward. Considering how well this shoe performs in traction, breathability,
comfort, and race performance, the price for the Asics Gel-Noosa Tri 11 is an
absolute steal. Definitely grab a pair while you can!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triathlon Running Shoe #1 Asics
Gel Kayano 25</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Link: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/ASICS-Mens-Gel-Kayano-Running-Shoes/dp/B07DHYJSSG">https://www.amazon.com/ASICS-Mens-Gel-Kayano-Running-Shoes/dp/B07DHYJSSG</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The final shoe on our list is in
our opinion the best triathlon running shoe for men at the time of writing. There
are so many positive features, but the cushioning is a great place to start.
The Asics Gel Kayano 25 has both rearfoot and forefoot cushioning which is
designed to reduce shock during impact when your foot drives off the ground. This
will allow you to run faster and for longer.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another feature that helps these
shoes stand apart from the crowd is the Impact Guidance System (IGS)
technology. This is technology designed by Asics to mimic the natural running
gait of your foot by linking components so that when you land it is as if you
were barefoot. There are many other ways in which Asics attempt to recreate
natural barefoot gait, such as the Guidance Trusstic System Technology which
improves structural integrity around the midfoot. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The shoes also have SpevaFoam 45
Lasting foam which covers the entire length of the shoe, again this is ideal
for improving comfort, stability, and for recreating natural foot gait while
you run. All of these features combine for an unrivalled running experience,
all in a well-priced, well designed running shoe. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What makes this such a great
triathlon shoe is the durability, the comfort, and the way that it has been
designed to recreate natural bare-foot running. All for a ridiculously generous
price! This shoe is excellent value for money. While it may not be as good
during the transition as some of the triathlon-specific running shoes we’ve
mentioned (i.e. the Zoot Ultra Race 4.0) it more than holds it own when it
comes to performance. This is our favourite triathlon running shoe.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Final Thoughts</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As you can see, this list has
been made up of running shoes that are triathlon specific, as well as running
shoes that are so good that they can excel in the triathlon. Sometimes you want
to find the best shoe that was solely designed for a sport (triathlons,
cross-country etc) and hopefully you’ll find the ones we’ve picked suitable.
But sometimes what you really want is a shoe that is so good at what it does it
could be used in most sports and still excel. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This list combines both types of shoe
and represents the pinnacle of triathlon running shoes. The list is in order of
our favourites with #1 representing the best, but each shoe on this list is a
worthy choice. Think of these as ten great shoes, and then decide for yourself
which one best represents your own needs. </p>
